The Basque Center for Applied Mathematics – BCAM and BMW Group collaborate in an industrial PhD on Computational Fluid Dynamics and Machine Learning. This PhD is funded by the German group and will work in collaboration with the CFD Modelling and Simulation group at BCAM.
The supervisors of the PhD thesis are Ikerbasque Prof. Marco Ellero, leader of the CFD group, Dr. Roberto Santana (Intelligent Systems Group, UPV/EHU) and Dr. Babak Gholami, from BMW. The PhD will take place in Munich (Germany) with regular visits to the Bilbao centre, a way to ensure close collaboration.
This industrial PhD is part of the “Artificial Intelligence and CFD Data Simulation Model” project which aims to develop data structures and simulation models for AI and physics-informed data that are applicable to multiple engineering disciplines and can ultimately be integrated into day-to-day BMW projects.
Applicants are expected to have a degree in engineering, physics or applied mathematics. Candidates with a strong scientific background in data science, fluid dynamics and simulation are strongly encouraged to apply.
This new industrial doctorate strengthens the programme that BCAM is developing in the framework of its Knowledge Transfer Unit (KTU), which among other activities (such as applied research projects, joint positions…) promotes the development of industrial doctorates for the training of PhDs in companies, in order to promote the incorporation of talent in the productive fabric to increase its competitiveness.
