We would like to inform you that we have decided to postpone the SIAM Conference on Mathematical Aspects of Materials Science (MS2020) for a year.
We deeply regret having been forced to make this change of date at this late stage as we are well aware that it will significantly affect financially both the participants and the BCAM organisers. Spain is currently under lockdown and the Basque Country, where Bilbao is located, is under sanitary emergency, due to the dramatic expansion of infections with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This exceptional measures will be in place until 29 March, but there is a strong chance that they will be extended after that date. In addition, various universities in the whole world, as well as funding agencies have imposed travel restrictions that prevent a strong number of participants from attending or making travel plans.
We have come to the conclusion that although the conference is still about two-months away the current conditions make it virtually impossible for a large number of participants to attend, or plan their attendance, as well as for the organisers to suitably prepare and deliver the conference in good conditions. Taking these into account it was decided to postpone the conference to May 24 to 29, 2021.
The terms regarding the reimbursement of registration fees will be clarified in the coming days in this same website and participants will be contacted by email with more details.
At the moment we can say that MS21 will formally be a new conference and new minisymsposia and registrations will be accepted with a registration fee slightly higher than the current one. This will be due to the increase in costs and participants anticipated for the following year. In fact, MS21 is scheduled to last 6 days, from May 24 to May 29, 2021.
Again we express our deep regret in having to make this change and we look forward to welcoming you to Bilbao next year,
