IWSM 2020: Social Activities
Registration to the social activities (except for the informal Get Together) is made as part of the registration process for the conference (Registration). The welcome reception is included in the registration fee.
Get Together (Sunday 19, 2020)
The informal Get Together will take place on Sunday evening at La Ribera Market from 19:30.
Welcome Reception (Monday 20, 2020)
The Welcome Reception will take place on Monday evening at the Maritime Museum (Itsasmuseum).
Excursion (Wednesday 22, 2020)
For the excursion, which will take place on Wednesday afternoon, you can choose between the following three options (all options include dinner at La Ribera Market):
- Trip to Bizcay Coast (6 hours). San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a zigzag walk down a steep hill, passage across the Bay of Biscay via a picturesque stone footbridge, and a hike up 241 steps, to be exact. This islet was used by Game of Thrones producers to film a number of epic scenes. From 14:30 to 20:30. Minimum 25 people. 65 EUR.
- Bilbao guided city walking tour (3 hours). Discover Bilbao and its traditions as a professional guide takes you around two areas that capture the seasonal feel of the city: the Casco Viejo (Old Town) and Ensanche-Abandoibarra. Minimum 15 people. 40 EUR.
- Traditional Basque Cooking class (1 hour 45 minutes). Experience a basque cuisine cooking class and learn how to prepare a "traditional" Basque dish. Limited to 12 people. If there are more than 12 people interested, there is a possibility to open an extra group. 83 EUR.
Gala Dinner (Thursday 23, 2020)
The Conference Dinner will take place on Thursday evening at the Yandiola restaurant located at the Azkuna Zentroa building. The gala dinner has a cost of 65 EUR (for students and retired fellows) and 75 EUR (for regular participants and accompanying persons).
